2022 Aloka Online Dhamma Course

The Mahā-Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta is regarded as one of the most important suttas in the Tipitaka or the Pali Canon. It explains the systematic cultivation of Samatha Vipassana based on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness. These are the essential teachings of the Buddha that lead to one’s final liberation.

This three-month online course will focus on theory, practice and realisation through the Mahā-Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta. It will include a comprehensive explanation of the sutta in English, together with practical advice on applying mindfulness in daily life.

Participants will be encouraged not only to study the theory but also to apply the teachings on a practical level throughout the course.

The course will conclude with an optional seven-day online meditation retreat.

Teachers

Bhante Mahinda first studied the Mahā-Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta in 1982 in Sri Lanka through a word-by-word approach under renowned Pali scholar, Venerable Dr. Kakkapalliye Anuruddha.

He later undertook systematic cultivation of Samatha Vipassana under the guidance of Venerable Amatha Gavesi in 1992, after having attended meditation retreats based on Mindfulness under well-known teachers in India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Thailand.

Bhante Mahinda has taught Mindfulness and Metta meditation for more than 40 years in over 20 countries.

In the words of Venerable Mahinda: “When we are living in fear and danger, worry and anxiety, we need to seek refuge in the Buddha Dhamma Sangha. We need their blessings, guidance and protection.

“Those who have faith and devotion to the Buddha will naturally find solace in times of need.
